How to Bypass 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Heater Core?

The heater core is leaking on the passenger side of the cabin. How hard is it to do a bypass? How is is it done? Step-by step method. I am a change oil and filter guy and not a mechanic.

The radiator shop wants $500 to replace the heater core. I would like to keep the Jeep for pulling a pop-up camper. How to Bypass 1997 Jeep Grand Cherokee Heater Core?Well, 500 bucks to change the heater core is not too bad, considering the entire dashboard has to be removed to get to it.

Anyhow, it's real simple to bypass the heater. You can't block the flow - it has to always be circulating. Just cut the 2 hoses entering and exiting the firewall with a utility knife and connect them together with a coupler and clamps.

Before you bypass the heater, check that the problem isn't with one of those connections at the firewall. I had leaking antifreeze coming into the passenger side and the shop told me the core was bad and wanted 700-800 to replace it. I decided to do it myself. Bought a core for 79.00. Then started taking things apart. I noticed that one of the hose clamps was loose and was squirting water into the core when the engine ran. Put a new clamp on it and no more leak!

  • Do all oil change places use cheap parts?

Sure they might use a name brand oil, but most oil manufactures don't make filters. I've only had my oil changed once at a quick change place. (I needed it changed and it was like 20 out and in the middle of winter) When I took off the oil filter I noticed how cheep it looked. The fluid holes were smaller then name brand filters and they even had metal burrs on the holes which could of broken off and got metal chips in my oil. They will also sell you a $20.00 air filter that's worth about $3.00. It will have less fins then most air filters and a rougher mesh to compensate for the lesser area of air flow. You can go to a auto store and get a better filter for cheaper. Are there any oil change places that use name brand parts? Is a dealership your only option?Do all oil change places use cheap parts?Your best option is to buy Mobil1, take it to the dealer of your car and let them use their OEM oil filters to service your car if they aren't available at Walmart. Get this! If you take your own oil and filter to a Chevrolet dealer they'll do it for under $15.00. You can install a cabin air or engine air filter any time you want. Purolator, Motorcraft NAPA (made by Wix) AC-Delco or Wix by name will smoke any discount store Fram filter on the market.

Do not ever think of having your oil changed at Walmart. They store their lowest dollar Fram filters UNCOVERED in steel racks in the shop area with heating fans blowing dust and dirt all over them. Untrained, non mechanics do the work.Do all oil change places use cheap parts?Welcome to America

just demand Fram filters, everyone redesigns their filter from Fram filters more-or-less.

off brand filters go by the dimensions of the filters and thread size, after that they don't care.

oil change places have low-overhead, dealers have a large building, employees, ECT, their price will be higher.Do all oil change places use cheap parts? They use the cheapest parts and charge you as much as humanly possible for them.

Cheers.Do all oil change places use cheap parts?what parts there oil and a filter

there is cheap house brands of both and quicklube place that suck oil out doesnt get it all

you can do it at home for a little less and about same time not all places use cheap stuff but more likely to get it at a quicklube oil place than a regular and if you do it it wil be cheaper and you can choose what brand you want when you want about same prices for the oil and filter anywhere you go having it done what your paying for your time or their time

An upgrade kit was added to my Triumph, how many miles till I change the oil?

I have a 2003 Triumph Bonneville, it has about 22,000 miles on it but that doesn't matter, I installed a Wiseco upgrade kit in it, 800 to 900 ccs. It has a new piston and a new sleeve in the cylinder. I've run it one or two hundred miles. Okay, this is just my thinking, I thought I'd run it a while, a %26quot;break-in%26quot; period using the oil that was in it and then put in a fresh filter and load of synthetic oil. I don't know if people do this anymore. My thought was the oil would pick up any contaminants or pieces of metal, and then would be flushed out with a new oil change. Considering that I've decided to do this already, how many miles would you run it before the new change, 100, 200, 1000 miles, more? thanksAn upgrade kit was added to my Triumph, how many miles till I change the oil?I'd do 500 making sure I didn't lug the engine at all during break in. I'm just wondering if you are running synthetic now. I've heard tell that synth makes bedding of the new rings a problem. I've also heard that switching from dyno oil, if that's what you are using, to synth can deprive seals of certain swelling agents that may cause them to weep a bit. YMMV! Your plan otherwise seems sound. An upgrade kit was added to my Triumph, how many miles till I change the oil?500 miles or less good

Oil Change on an S&S 96 CI?

Hi. I have a 2005 Saxon custom scepter chopper. I am trying to change the oil and removed the engine drain plug and the filter but don't know how to drain the resivoir. Is there another plug somewhere? Thanks alot and please respond asap as i am in mid change right now. lolOil Change on an S%26amp;S 96 CI?There should be a drain plug at the back corner of the oil tank on the bottom. If it's a softail type tank look for a rubber hose off the tank to a drain plug on the bottom of the frame.I'm not familiar with a Scepter so i can't say for sure where it is.Oil Change on an S%26amp;S 96 CI?The resevoir is drained from the line at the bottom, its not a drain plug, fill it from under the seat, and there is no engine drain plug, just tilt the bike to the left after you have the filter off.

2001 C-5 Vette on board computer ...OIL LIFE REMAINING.?

On a 2001 C-5 Vette, there is an on-board computer that monitors %26quot;oil life remaining%26quot;. Let me preface my question and rule out %26quot;opinions%26quot;, PLEASE, just the facts, just the TRUTH ... !

What is the percentage of %26quot;oil life remaining%26quot; that the oil should be changed at ? I've been changing it at around 45% and that gets me about 3500 miles or so. I've come to believe that that is way too soon and I am simply throwing my money away. What does GM, or a very knowledgeable Corvette Engineer say ???

How does 10 % remaining sound ? Isn't that the purpose of the computer monitor ? And what about changing the filter in between oil changes ??? Is there a truly BEST oil filter for this car ?

    THANKS in advance,

Filter too. EVERY oil change. Penzoil, Fram, OEM .....any good oil and filter.2001 C-5 Vette on board computer ...OIL LIFE REMAINING.?The percentage indicator runs from 100 to 0, every 7500 miles, so you are changing the oil every 3500 miles..half way, but it really depends on how long it is between changes and how the car is used.. If you drive a none stop commute to work, like 60miles round trip, the oil is at a steady flow %26amp; pressure, which is better than city mileage, with lots of stops, oil pressure jumps up and down and less circulation..In other words go to the 10 % mark if highway, but not over 3 months, and for city -50%, but you need to remember to use the recommended oil for your vehicle and do not change brands-due to different makers, use different detergents in the oil..Also a factor, if the automaker thought the engine would fail-due to changing the oil by indicator, then they you have set the indicator different..Hope this helps..2001 C-5 Vette on board computer ...OIL LIFE REMAINING.?The oil monitors engine rpm, distance, temp, etc etc to determine when to change it.... and it is pretty good... (seen oil analysis's of regular pennzoil, changed when the monitor said so. over 12,000 miles on that oil, did fantastic, low wear, etc)

After which it is recommended that you change the oil within the next 600 miles. The computer doesn't use mileage to do its calculations. It uses engine revolutions and engine temperature. This has proven to be much more efficient than just every 3,000 miles. I usually change oil about every 5,500 miles +/-. Your cars user manual might have info on the computer. Hope this helps. A special type of strap wrench will remove any oil filter. As you turn it, it tightens in on the filter. You might be able to get one at an auto parts dealer. This is what it looks like. What are all the items i need to constantly change for my car and how often?for example: spark plugs, oil etc?

i would like to make a spreadsheet of all the items i need to keep track of and swap out. i do not know much about cars, but i would like to know when something comes due and that it needs to be changed out. the only thing i really already know is the oil change every 3000 miles, but what about spark plugs, filter and the rest? thanks for all your answers! What are all the items i need to constantly change for my car and how often?for example: spark plugs, oil etc?It really depends on the car but a general rule of thumb is, oil and oil filter at every 3k, engine and cabin air filters every 15k, fuel filter every 15-20k, spark plugs 30k for regular, 60-90k for most platinum spark plugs, PCV valve 15k, rotate tires and check brakes 5-6k, lube chassis, suspension and locks 15k, check tire pressures weekly, check lighting weekly and replace wiper blades annually. Belts and hoses should be replaced at 60k or 6yrs and timing belts range from 60-110k if equipped and depending on year, make and model. Sorry, almost left out the transmission fluid, 15k if you tow and 25k under normal conditions. What are all the items i need to constantly change for my car and how often?for example: spark plugs, oil etc?It should be in your owners manual.

If you don't have one, someone may be able to tell you if you clue us into what kind of car you have as different cars have different requirements. What are all the items i need to constantly change for my car and how often?for example: spark plugs, oil etc?Ideally, the air filter should be checked everytime you fill up at the pump, but of course the world isn't ideal. You should check it at least once a month because I'm sure your driving areas can change in that time frame, thus exposing your filter to different elements.

I would check everything else (spark plugs, all other fluids, hoses, PCV valve, etc) every 15,000 miles to be safe, and change them out if it looks abnormal. Your manufacturer should provide you with a time frame of service intervals for each thing in the owners manual. What are all the items i need to constantly change for my car and how often?for example: spark plugs, oil etc?if it is an auto trans you need to change the filter in it every 250,000 miles unless you don't mind buying a new one

My oil pressure drops to 0 after it warms up but comes up when its revved up and down when idled back down?

i have a 2001 dodge ram 1500 4x4 2%26quot; lift with the 360/5.9l gas engine. i went mudding got stuck engine was in the mud some not sure how much maybe up to the oil pan and got it towed home and changed all the fluids and filters because water in it. i saw that i lose oil pressure after it gets warm if i rev it up it stays up if not it drops. so i changed oil and filter again 2nd time same. changed oil and filter again and oil pump and screen cleaned out the sludge in the oil pick up screen and bottom of the oil pan and now I'm here it still does it . i don't notice any noise it doesn't seem to rev up and idle back down like it used to

i took the belt off to hear better and there is a slight knock to it but not a lot . what can i do to get some more life out of it different oil ? a additive? what kind? can i just take the oil pan off an change the bearings wit out tearing the whole motor out?

when i took the oil pan off to change the pump i wiggled the rods they all wiggled about as much as a sheet of plan printer paper

the oil pressure drops all the way right away after it warms up but come back to normal when u rev it up and or keep it revved up or it will drop back down to none an check gauge light will come onMy oil pressure drops to 0 after it warms up but comes up when its revved up and down when idled back down?sounds like bearings, when engine warms the gaps will get bigger and the oil thinner thus pressure drop. yes you could change bearings without total strip down but difficult to measure journal wear if deep grooving evident crank regrind highly recommended. if muddy water has been pumped around motor you could have wear in other areas cam lifters etcMy oil pressure drops to 0 after it warms up but comes up when its revved up and down when idled back down?Engine wear is more often shown when the oil pressure increases after warm up and clearances decrease due to expansion.

Try a different sender, and check you sensor wiring, it may be moister in the wiring harness causing the problem. This is a short kind of like bad plug wires on a humid day, just enough to cause problems. Some oil senders are sealed from the oil, but not to well from water in the engine compartment.

If that does not work check the valve lifters. My oil pressure drops to 0 after it warms up but comes up when its revved up and down when idled back down?could be cam bearings or oil pressure sending unit

How often should I change my oil if my car is old and burns oil?

I live in Ohio and have an older vehicle. 1997 Mercury Grand Marquis. Pretty positive the car isn't leaking oil (likely burning it). I change the oil every 6 months. For the last few years it ALWAYS runs out of oil between changes. I'm new at this and have been remembering to check the dipstick and add oil. Should I go longer between oil changes since I'm adding new (clean) oil? If not, why? How often does the fuel filter need changing? Also - am I wasting my money paying $40-$50 for the expensive synthetic oil change service? How often should I change my oil if my car is old and burns oil?You should definitely resolve your loss of engine oil problem before using a synthetic oil. You are however, taking the best possible action by keeping check on your oil level. Synthetic oil is used to prevent the types of problems you are describing. Save the money from the synthetic oil change service and use it to have your oil loss problem repaired. Once resolved, then consider changing to a synthetic oil.

The fuel filter generally needs to be changed once a year on high mileage vehicles. How often should I change my oil if my car is old and burns oil?in my old car that i had i usually changed it every 1,500 - 2,000 miles. had the same problem on burning oil.How often should I change my oil if my car is old and burns oil?wasting your money. Change at 3000 miles with conventional oil (5W30) and keep it topped off when needed. Change the fuel filter every 15000.How often should I change my oil if my car is old and burns oil?I can't believe that you are using that much oil without a leak and if it burns that much you will have a permanent smoke screen behind you that you couldn't miss. Old engines need thicker oil not synth.

Amsoil do oil for older motors.

If you have no smoke screen you need to get someone to find out where it's going???How often should I change my oil if my car is old and burns oil?You have an oil leak on the outside or inside of the engine. Your car doesn't %26quot;burn%26quot; oil it uses it to lube the engine. If your car is %26quot;burning%26quot; oil then there's something wrong. All that said. I'd change your filter every 3,000 miles but if the oil it just burning up I'd just use cheap oil (just not the really cheap stuff). Every 1,000 miles or so I'd %26quot;top it off%26quot;. I don't have much money so I'd deal with an oil leak and have to top off my oil every so often over spending $500-1000 getting my engine fixed. Good luck.

-RobHow often should I change my oil if my car is old and burns oil?never

think about it you are putting a fresh quart of oil in there any ways so just change your oil filter every so often i haven't changed my oil in 3 years in my 1994 crown vic with that same engine as the grand marquise mine uses oil too the oil never turns blackHow often should I change my oil if my car is old and burns oil?Have you done an engine flush yet? That is always something to start with when your car is burning oil. you may have some internal issues such as sludge and blockages that are causing you issues. Also when was your O2 sensor changes last? There are several things that can help reduce or eliminate your problems, then you can go with a superior oil from AMSOIL.

  • Do It Yourself SUV Oil Change?

    1) How hard is it to change the oil of a SUV?

    2) How much approximately will it cost to get the supplies to do an oil change? What to I need other than oil and filter?

Thanks.Do It Yourself SUV Oil Change? You will need a drain pan about 6 bucks and i would get an oil filter wrench make sure it is for your filter they come in about 4 or 5 sizes. Initially about 30 bucks after you get what you need the next time all you will need is the oil and filter about 20 bucks. It is very easy to do. Take off the oil cap set drain pan under the oil pan unscrew the bolt on the oil pan drain replace bolt then remove oil filter and replace with new one make sure you wet your finger with a little oil and rub it on the black rubber o ring on the new filter so it will seal correctly. Hand tighten and then turn 1/4 turn more with wrench refill with oil they can tell you where you get the supplies from are you can look it up in your Manuel in the index under capacities. Thats it oh crank the car when all this is done let the oil light go out and check the oil level and adjust if need be. Thats it.Do It Yourself SUV Oil Change? You can go to the store and check the price of oil and a filter. Just get the type of oil your owner's manual recommends. You don't have to pay extra for a name brand. You will need an oil filter wrench, a wrench for the oil pan plug, and something to catch the oil. It's an easy job. Just remember to put the plug back in before you put the new oil in. People actually forget. Put the new filter on hand tight and turn it 1/4 turn more with the oil filter wrench. Start the engine and look underneath for leaks.

You can save an awful lot of money by doing things yourself on a car and at home. My hot water supply at home got cold all of a sudden and I fixed it today for something over eight dollars. I saved about two hundred bucks by doing it myself in a couple of minutes and I celebrated by taking a hot shower.Do It Yourself SUV Oil Change?95% of vehicles are very easy to change the oil on, all you need is oil and filter for parts, tools you will need a wrench for the oil drain plug, oil filter wrench, oil drain pan, possibly a creeper to lie on when under the vehicle or old clothes if your just going to lie on the floor. The tools and drain pan you will be able to buy if you don't already have them for under $20.00, if you buy a creeper then they are about $30 - $50 for a decent one.Do It Yourself SUV Oil Change?well depends on the brand of oil and brand of filter

i would say its going to be about 25 bucks for 5 qts. of oil and fitler

    other than that itseasy really

i tell you what get a friend that know how to do it and buy him a 12 pack of beer

let him show you step by step

this way you wont mess anything up and you will learn how to do it

its fairly easy to change oil

good luck and hope this helps

How do I increase my oil pressure?

I have a 88 Mazda truck with a machanical oil pump, new engine, and I still have plenty of time until I need to change my oil and filter. My pressure starts off fine, but once I have driven for a hour or two it drops to almost 0 at idle. I have the right oil weight in the truck. How do I increase my oil pressure?it might be your oil pump going out. While your truck isn't running the oil will drain to the bottom of the pan and make it easier for your pump to draw oil in. As you drive it becomes more difficult for an oil pump to draw oil. I would get your pump checked out asap. How do I increase my oil pressure? If its possible, get a high volume oil pump. How do I increase my oil pressure?Replace the oil pressure sending unit, it reads the pressure and send the information to the cluster, if you don't hear any abnormal noise when your pressure drops then it is that pressure unit or switchHow do I increase my oil pressure?add a product like STP or motor honey. works for me.How do I increase my oil pressure? You got big problems if you don't have a grantee on that engine as either the crankshaft or the bearings are NFG.How do I increase my oil pressure?sounds like the bearings may have too much space between them and the mains. most experts wold say to tear down a engine to check that before installing it, even if it came from mazda, gm or whoever. they also say as long as you have 10 psi on oil press for every 1000 rpm you don't have to worry about damaging anythingHow do I increase my oil pressure? If you really are getting near o psi at a hot idle, you either have a bad oil pressure sensor or are going to be in trouble. The engine is getting a little worn out. How many miles? Oil pressure should be near 20 at least at idle. Low oil pressure will wear out the crank and cam bearings fairly quickly. Hopefully all it is is a bad sensor or gauge. I would hook up a mechanical oil pressure gauge and verify the correct pressure readings to find out if the problem is external or inside the engine. To adjust, repair, or replace the oil pump, you need to drop the oil pan, anyway, so while you are in there you might want to replace the crankshaft bearings. If the engine has tons of miles on it, I'd just rebuild it or replace it with a rebuilt or new one.How do I increase my oil pressure?if you are sure that the gauge is working properly then you might have a weak oil pump. your best bet is to replace your pump. How do I increase my oil pressure?put in some 90 wt. gear oil

Most places will charge $40 for an oil change and new filter. Also check your air fliter... It really causes sluggishness in the intake and will improve performance. Air fliters should be changed every 5000kms I think it is. Also check all your fluids to keep them on the same time as your oil changes... it makes maintence a lot simpler. How much does it cost to change engine oil and what other filters do i need to change? of coz how much?About $20 -30 for changing engine oil and filter.

Change engine air filter every 15, 000 miles, and this is usually done at 15k service. The price depnds on what package you choose, like minimum factory required or dealer recommended.

Why do people think it's such a hassle to change their oil?

Everyone I talk to says how much of a hassle it is to change their oil, so they put full synthetic in there and let it run 10k miles. I don't think it's that hard. I craw under my pickup every 3k and put in fresh oil. It only takes me 10 minutes and only costs $15 for oil and the filter. Are people this lazy? Why do people think it's such a hassle to change their oil?As most people take a bath or shower from time to time to clean their body an engine requires a bath if you will at about 3k. An oil change is like cleaning the engine. If I were to sell these folks a soap for their shower and told them they should not shower again for 6 months, would they buy it? Are they that lazy? luv serWhy do people think it's such a hassle to change their oil?I run full synthetic in all my cars and change my oil ever 3000 miles. Why do people think it's such a hassle to change their oil?LAZINESS!! It drives me nuts, at the most changing your oil should take no more than 30 min. As like you, from the time I pull on the lift until I back out is 20 min max.Why do people think it's such a hassle to change their oil?difficult disposal of engine oil always took mine to the garageWhy do people think it's such a hassle to change their oil?laziness..or not knowing how....ive seen many people not knowing how to check fluid levels..telling em to find an oil pan drain plug and oil filter would be rocket science to these peopleWhy do people think it's such a hassle to change their oil?You realize that cars are now going to come with electronic tire pressure monitoring, which will make replacing tires much more expensive, all because most people are too lazy to use a tire gauge? That only requires bending over a little. And you expect them to get under their cars? And unscrew a plug? And not get oil on their face? And remember that they needed to buy the new oil before draining the old stuff?

  • When changing my oil, there was apparenlty no oil in the filter and a slight knocking. What could be wrong?

I also have a slight transmission leak, but beyond that and the oil thing everything is fine. How much, ballpark figure, would both of these problems cost to fix? When changing my oil, there was apparenlty no oil in the filter and a slight knocking. What could be wrong?Since oil is pumped into filter-you need to ask did the full amount drain out of pan when changing? Did U somehow allow the oil to leak out of the filter as u removed it?

I don't believe there is such a thing as %26quot;a slight knocking%26quot; in an engine as it is always a sign of excessive clearance. That said engines have gone thousands of miles with knocking rods and/or piston slap. These are both internal mechanical problems and usual repair is an engine rebuild.

The trans leak could be a pan gasket or one of several seals, depending on which seal could involve removal of transmission.

The cost depends on the car, parts and labor rates. U really need to give more details for even approximate answer.

Is it really a knocking or something less serious like a miss?

Where is the trans fluid leaking from? front or rear seal, pan? (place sheets of newspaper under car and start)When changing my oil, there was apparenlty no oil in the filter and a slight knocking. What could be wrong?Oil could just be low volume so filling it to proper amount may fix that. The transmission may just be bad gasket which could be changed at next fluid change or loose bolt so that could be minimal also. When changing my oil, there was apparenlty no oil in the filter and a slight knocking. What could be wrong?may be there's low amount of oil or low quality oil or may be there is oil leakage.

see to itWhen changing my oil, there was apparenlty no oil in the filter and a slight knocking. What could be wrong?Maybe the oil in the filter drained back into the engine. This doesn't sound unsual. What kind of knocking are you talking about? Valves? An hourly rate may apply to fixing the transmission. Last time I had something done it was $80 an hour. Depends on the car also. When changing my oil, there was apparenlty no oil in the filter and a slight knocking. What could be wrong? This SLIGHT knocking did not last for more then a few seconds right. If so, there is NO issue here. Oil filters, unlike fuel filters in diesel engines, do NOT need to be primed before starting the engine. All the Nervous Nellies out there will tell you otherwise but it is not true. If the engine is NOT now knocking then it is okay.

When you say transmission leak, we need to know type of car, front or rear wheel drive, and from WHERE the leak is coming from, otherwise an estimate would be all over the place.

Oil Filter Vs. Synthetic Oil Longevity ?

With the ever longer lasting synthetic oils on the market, how long will the Oil Filter last? and is it recommended to change it before the recommended Oil change or at the same time as what the Synthetic oil recommends its oil to be changed?

Even though Synthetic Oil will not %26quot;brakedown%26quot;as fast as Non Synthetic oil, that doesn't mean that it doesn't get just as dirty as any other oil in an engine.

I realize that a lot of it will have to do with the environment %26amp; driving conditions, but Im just curious how long the average oil filter will last during %26quot;normal%26quot; driving conditions with a synthetic oil, or is there a recommended Oil Filter to use with a Synthetic oil?Oil Filter Vs. Synthetic Oil Longevity ?AMSOIL produces the Absolute Efficiency (Ea) line of premium filters designed specifically for that purpose. Ea Oil Filters are made with full synthetic nanofiber technology, making them the highest efficiency filters that are available for the auto/light truck market. They are guaranteed for 25,000 miles or one year when used in conjunction with AMSOIL motor oil in normal service.

http://gforcesynthetics.com/AMSOIL%20SynOil Filter Vs. Synthetic Oil Longevity ?Just like the oil, regardless of the miles covered the car needs servicing including an oil and filter change every 12 months as a minimum.Oil Filter Vs. Synthetic Oil Longevity ?Good question, at first GM recommended filter be changed every other oil change, but that leaves a quart of old oil in the filter, and people experienced leaks in the rubber seat on the filter if it was removed, emptied then replaced, so they reversed themselves and said just replace the filter at every oil change.Oil Filter Vs. Synthetic Oil Longevity ?Oil filters need changing every 3,000 miles. If using synthetic oil you don't need to change the oil and filter every 3 months as with regular motor oil. This is the reason people that don't put many miles on a vehicle should use synthetic oil. They may get by with once a year oil changes that way. Normal drivers still need to replace oil filters every 3,000 miles no matter the type of oil used. I always have to explain to customers with motor damage that using synthetic oil does not guarantee longer motor life and you ruined the motor because of a plugged up oil filter.Oil Filter Vs. Synthetic Oil Longevity ?Mobil One makes an EXCELLENT oi lfilter that should work for the extended oil drain interval. It is best to examine the oil condition periodically. If the synthetic oil becomes very dark or thick, then you should change the filter earlier, and add a quart. Synthetic oil will last longer if the sludge left from the old oil is chemically removed first.

I have been using OEM Acura Filter/ and whatever oil they use at the dealership. How to change the oil on a craftsman lt 1000?

How do you change the oil on a 2006 craftsman lt 1000 16hp briggs and stratton. where the drain for the oil at? what kinda filter if any does it take? what kind oil does it take and how much? How to change the oil on a craftsman lt 1000?First, you drain the oil on the right side of the engine (looking forward).

It has a drain valve that you hook a piece of tubing to so you can catch the old oil. Than you turn the collar counter clockwise and pull it out. The oil will drain. Loosen or remove the dipstick to allow better venting. When it is done draining, push the valve back in and turn it clockwise to lock it. Add three pints of 30wt oil and check the level with the dipstick. There is no oil filter unless it was an option. If there is a filter it will be near the drain valve and look like an auto filter except a bit smaller.

    Transmission oil change???

I have a honda 2000 civic lx bought it froma friend 1 yr ago has 79,750 miles on it and I checked the transmission fluid this morning and it's a light brown color-I thought transmission fluid was suppose to be pink or red. Well not having any problems with the transmission but I know I should have it changed soon since it's dirty. But my husband can't do it till next weekend he is not a mechanic but does do the oil changes and smalll things like so, he says changing the transmission fluid is simple, so my question is will it be okay to wait till next weekend and how hard is it to change the fluid and do we need to change a filter?? I know we have to only use the honda transmission fluid. Thanks guys!!!!Transmission oil change???its not a problem that the fluid is slightly discolored. That happens over time as the dyes in the oil darken from the heat generated by the transmission. As long as the fluid doesn't smell burnt.you'll be okay.

there is no filter inside that transmission. there is a drain bolt similar to your engine oil drain plug that you unscrew to drain the oil. You will get about 3 1/2 quarts out. The only way to get it all out is to flush the trans but its not worth it.

you are right in that you need to use the Hondamatic transmission fluid only. you can only get that at a Honda dealer.

The factory recommendation on the fluid change is 100k so its not a problem unless as I mentioned the fluid smells burnt. Otherwise, no worries.

hope that helpsTransmission oil change???You should have NO WORRIES, it is not near as important as the oil changes.

To get the max life out of your car though, go with the severe service intervals for all your maintenance. This usually means trans fluid drain and top-off ever 30k.

Very easy to change - pull drain plug on side of transmission case - usually a 3/8%26quot; socket drive size. Leave it to drain. Replace plug and top off with the correct amount of ATF. My accord takes exactly 2.5 quarts.

Note: For regular ATF, yes use Honda brand. But, I recommend Amsoil synthetic to all my customers. I have 3 Hondas that all have Amsoil - 95 Odyssey 230k miles, 94 Accord wagon 227k miles and 94 Accord sedan 281k miles. Synthetic stays much cooler and thus does not breakdown and turn brown like your current ATF. Temperature is the reason for failure in 90% of transmission issues.

To switch over, just drain and top the ATF at each oil change. You should have it mostly switched over after about 4 changes. After this, you can easily go 60k on the ATF drains. The synthetic oil and the extended life oil filters are rated at 25k miles though I usually only double the Honda interval of 7500 with 15k changes. This makes it just as cheap to use the expensive synthetic. ($7/qt and $9 filters) compared to 3k oil changes with regular oil ($2/qt*5 and $3/filter*5).Transmission oil change???Personally my experience had been normally simply draining %26amp; refilling the ATF fluid every 25,000 to 30,000 miles works best! In fact we have always owned 5 brand new TOYOTAS (and one, a 1993 Toyota Camry LE we gave away with 211,000 miles when my wife got 2005 Highlander 6 cylinder AWD all have made it to at least 150,000 miles with no ATF or transmission problems simply by draining %26amp; refilling the ATF fluid, actually I do it more frequently after the vehicle reached 100K mile plateau like every 2nd or 3rd oil change. But again, most experts recommend every 25,000 or 30,000 miles and then I was surprised that most service stations charge like $30 when it is such an easy DIY task of simply opening the drain plug, measure how much came out and then refill like 2 to 3 quarts of ATF according to the manufacturer specifications via skinny ATF tube.

Older vehicles used to use DEXRON III ATF but newer ones use more sophisticated ATF that it is extremely critical not to refill with wrong ATF, otherwise troubles begin and TRANSMISSIONS are expensive to overhaul %26amp; fix and often times never the same that people give up and trade-in as lessons learned experience.

Honda civic lx 07, how do i change the engine air filter?

so i went to the honda dealership for an oil change and the dude said i need to change the engine air filter or something of the like, well he wanted an arm and leg can i do this my self?Honda civic lx 07, how do i change the engine air filter?Yes the air filter is located in the plastic box on top of the engine or next to it. It's held together with clips or 8mm head bolts. If it has bolts you'll need an 8mm, or 5/16 inch (same thing) nut driver. Open it up, swap the new filter in and close it.

You should also check the cabin air filter. It's located behind the glove box. Open it, theres stops on both sides you press in to release it and let it hang down. Then youll see a horizontal rectangular door, the cabin air filter is in there. Open it up if the filter is full of nasty crap replace it, needless to say.

Yamaha xj600 oil and spark plug change?

i recently bought a used 1995 yamaha xj600, it runs fine everythings great except that it wont go past 45mph...my friend whose kind of a mechanic told me to change the oil, oil filter, and spark plugs, he also said to get the carbs cleaned but that runs about $250 and considering how much i paid for the bike and the fact that this is just my first bike and will probably be sold after this season i dont really wanna spend too much on it. my question is will changing the oil and sparks help or should i go all out and get the carbs done too, i was also thinking about replacing the clutch since i probably burnt the hell out of it my first week riding but my friend said its fine for now....advice, ideas please...Yamaha xj600 oil and spark plug change? An oil change won't make a difference in the performance problems you describe.

Oil breaks down after time and should be replaced at regular intervals - even if the bike hasn't been run, oil goes bad from just sitting.

Spark plugs give the most problems at initial start up.

Bikes that old, the rubber parts in the carbs deteriorate over time - a carb clean would be a good place to start.

Check the air cleaner for blockage.

Next would be a valve adjustment.Yamaha xj600 oil and spark plug change?Bought a '1996 Yamaha XJ600 (first bike) a few months ago. Yamaha xj600 oil and spark plug change?Oil, oil filter and spark plugs - must do.

Clean the carbs - you can and probably should do this, depending on how long the bike stood for before you bought it.

$250 - if you not willing to spend so little to get it going well, maybe you shouldn't wait till after the season to sell it, get rid of it now. You either want it going well, or you don't want it.

--You'll have to remove part of the lower cowl to get at the oil filter.

--Remove the drain bolt. Bottem of crankcase (use a 17mm 6pt box wrench).

--Drain the oil (don't forget to re-cycle).

--Re-install the drain bolt (use a new washer if the old one is damaged).

    --Remove the oil filter.

--Dip your finger in new motor oil and wet the o-ring of the new filter. Install the new filter hand tight (nice and firm with one hand -12ft lbs).

--Always check the oil level with the bike straight up and down (as if you were sitting on it).

--The oil level sight glass is below the oil fil cap (right side of engine).

--The crankcase holds about 4 qts. After installing the 3rd qt, hold the bike up and watch the oil level sight glass.

--When the oil gets almost to the top, stop filling.

--Install the oil cap, start the bike and run it for a few minutes.

--Turn off the bike and let it cool down to let the oil drain back down to the crankcase.

--Hold the bike up and re-check the oil level. Add oil to cover 3/4 of the sight glass.

    --Check for any oil leaks.

--Go for a ride and have fun.Yamaha r6 oil change?Run the bike for at least 5 minutes to warm it up. Getting the oil warm and circulating will mix more dirt into the oil, so more dirt gets drained out. Shut the bike off, and look at the bottom of the motor. There should be either a 5/8%26quot; or 3/4%26quot; drain bolt on the bottom. Drain it out from there. You may need to take the lower fairings off, but i am unsure. Simply take the old oil filter off, and put on the new one. Put the drain bolt back in, and fill with appropriate oil and to correct level.

    Oil change for cars.?

Ima do a oil change myself just bought new oil filter an Castrol gtx high mileage. HOw many miles is it i bought 5guarts.

Like say i went to get a 20$ oil change its 3000miles too change. Right So many miles is the Castrol gtx High mileage 3000miles too or higher.?Oil change for cars.?You should always change your oil at 3,000 miles or 3 months what ever comes first no matter what oil you use. The high mileage should be change the same as any other oil. The only difference is the additives in it that are suppost to help with sludge build up, bearing wear, and seals which are problems with high mileage motors. If you keep up with your oil changes every 3,000 miles you shouldn't have any problems even if you didn't use high mileage oil.Oil change for cars.?There are people who say 3,000. Their are others that say 5-6,000. It's your choice.

  • Yamaha XJ650 won't start after oil change.?

I'm quite sure I changed the oil and filter correctly. Though I admittedly have little experience with bikes I've worked on cars for years. I started the bike directly after the change to cycle the oil and it ran just fine. The next morning the ignition wouldn't even engage. The lights and gauges and horn all work. Oddly the oil indicator comes on though the oil level is correct in the window.

The Hayes manual I have says the oil light can also be an indicator of an electric problem but does not specify what or how. This bike is so old I can't find much in the way of forums devoted to it so I am asking here. Thanks for any assistance out there.Yamaha XJ650 won't start after oil change.?I'm glad to hear you have a manual. That does make things much easier. I doubt that your non-start problem is oil related. The oil light will be lit at any time the engine is not running. It takes oil pressure to turn the light out. Using your manual, start checking out the starter circuits.

Edit: kill switch - did you hit it by accident? I know I have.Yamaha XJ650 won't start after oil change.?Thanks for the advise! I don't know what exactly the problem was, as it cleared up in the process of checking through the circuits. Maybe just a loose connection or fuse. Also great tip about the clutch switch, I never thought about the button under teh pedal itself going bad. Thanks to you both.

Yamaha XJ650 won't start after oil change.?Make sure your battery is good, the only switches that make it not start are the neutral safety switch if in gear bike won't turn over unless clutch is in(small micro switch under clutch lever) sometimes the actual thumb push buttons go, there will be a starter solenoid on the bike somewhere under a side cover or seat,,jump it out just as you would a car to make sure starter is good.

    good luck

I have gas in my oil and need help are my rings and bearings still good?

My question isnt how it got there. It went through the rings, the gas was poured in the carb to prime the fuel pump. my fuel pump is good, my carb is good. Also It flooded it because i have a highrise intake and big carb also have a cam etc, and used the old spark plugs to attempt to test the engine. To much gas, not enough spark, flooded it. The thing is, is that i never managed to start it although i turned it over a good bit, i was wanting to know how likely it is that my bearings and or rings are messed up? thats the question.... Im praying that new spark plugs and an oil/filter change fixes the problem, im also planning to buy a high performance distributor/coil/cap. Please .let me know what you think. Thanks alot. K.C.I have gas in my oil and need help are my rings and bearings still good?diablo you need to do a compression test to see if the rings are all good. a tester should run around 25 dollars or so more for better quality type. then you have the motor cranked 5 vevelutions each cylinder , writing the numbers you get. the variation should be less than 15 lbs or so any that read drasticly different should be rechecked and then noted. much lower would be blown rings. ps you dont prime a fuel pump pouring fuel into an engine thats just priming the cylinders.

Bring oils and oil filters to the shop for oil change, charge how much?

when i bought my used car , the previous owner gave me a case of motor oils and some filters that is useless for him, if i provide these item and go to the shop for a oil change, how much AROUND they will charge me??? ( labor fee )....$5? $10?

thankyou for answering!!!Bring oils and oil filters to the shop for oil change, charge how much?most places will not perform your requested oil change without using thier own parts (oil, filter, etc) mainly so that they wont be held responsible for any damage which might incur otherwise. (not neccessarily your oil or filter, but as a general rule that applies to all customers regardless of the part) if u happen to find a garage that will accept the job, i wouldn't pay more than $15.00 at most. good luck.Bring oils and oil filters to the shop for oil change, charge how much? Some places won't do any work unless they use their parts ( warranty issues). Some places may do the work with your oil and filter but will not warranty anything. Some places will do it with your stuff but charge you a regular hourly rate which will probably be more than the advertised price for an oil change. Finally, there are those rare shops that will do it with your stuff for $10-$15. You have to remember that whoever changes your oil has to be paid for his/her labor. So if everyone tried to do what you are trying to do, the company would lose money paying the laborer and would not having money coming in as they do make some of their money on the price of the parts and materials. GOOD LUCK!!!Bring oils and oil filters to the shop for oil change, charge how much?I have a friend that takes oil with him to the fast oil change place and they only take $6 or $7 off and he is still paying around $20 so you would be lucky if you could get out for $15 $16 in labor. seams like your friends would do it for you, its not hard and and only takes 15 min. or so.

    To change oil:

    1) run the engine a couple minutes to warm the oil, then turn off the engine

    2) remove the skid plate (if you have one)

    3) remove the oil drain plug - let oil drain into a drain pan

    4) remove oil filter cap (generally on the side of the engine)

    5) remove oil filter - replace with new one - replace oil filter cap

    6) tighten oil drain plug (don't forget any washer) to torque specs

    7) Add new oil to fill lines. Run engine a bit then turn it off and check oil level again - add more oil in necessary (running the engine loads oil into the filter again)

I have a caviliar 1.7td just turned 130000 miles, very good runner, does smoke a little. Change the timing belt on time. Read your owner's manual 4-5 times, esp the section on acceptable fluids and fuels. Use Lubro-Moly's %26quot;diesel purge%26quot; once or twice yearly to clean the injector pintels and piston heads. Use only oils that are recommended for use in diesel engines, not the local %26quot;bulk%26quot; oils provided by quicky lubes. • Oil filter is leaking after i changed my oil?

its not the old rubber left on, because i check my old filter to see if it still was attached.has anyone every had a new oil filter with a hole in it. or maybe i could have cross threaded it when i put the new one on. is that possible.

how could it be fixedOil filter is leaking after i changed my oil?Did you clean the seal area for the filter. Lots don't and dirt sits there and can cause leaks. Did you put some oil on the filter seal?? This also helps to seal. The cross threading thing could be possible and also if you did not tighten it properly. This is the most common cause of a leak. It went on and seemed tight but after a few drives it begins to leak. Mine does it as well so there are times I have to retighten the thing and no more leak.

Although this is not always the case. My GM van had some problem as every second filter would leak (literally). tightening did not cure it so replacement was the cure. Never did figure out why. Brand did not matter or who installed, me the garage, dealer, no matter every other filter leaked and I did an oil change every couple of weeks (high mileage driver). Was frustrating to say the least.Oil filter is leaking after i changed my oil?Did you use an impact gun to put it on, if so you might have cross threaded it. I wouldn't worry about it.Oil filter is leaking after i changed my oil?DID U PUT ALITTLE OIL ON THE RUBBER?IT DOES HELPOil filter is leaking after i changed my oil?a little dirt on the seal perhapsOil filter is leaking after i changed my oil?I'd replace it.Oil filter is leaking after i changed my oil?swap out the filter, don't forget to top off the oilOil filter is leaking after i changed my oil?when removing the old oil filter, you might have left the old oil filter seal on the rim. If this is case the new oil filter did not seal correctly when mounted.Oil filter is leaking after i changed my oil?Just put your old one back on and see if the problem clears. Could be trash under gasket.... Have seen new ones with holes in then but thats rare... Most problems happen with the old gasket getting stuck.Oil filter is leaking after i changed my oil? Before you put the new one on did you clean the area on the engine and also smear both sides of rubber seal on filter with little motor oil before refitting as this causes a tighter seal.Oil filter is leaking after i changed my oil?you may have cross threaded it/ i dont believe as mentioned by another that you shouldnt worry about it/ if you dont worry about it you could risk your engine seizing up so check into finding if it is crossthreaded and if not it may have not been tightened enough/ and hand tighten only but with a good turnOil filter is leaking after i changed my oil?did you rub oil on the seal of the new filter before tightening it? If not, you should have. If it's cross threaded, I would just replace it with another new one.Oil filter is leaking after i changed my oil?Put on a new one and lube the gasket with motor oil. hand tighten only.Oil filter is leaking after i changed my oil?wrong filter.

get a new one (this time ,the right one.) different store.Oil filter is leaking after i changed my oil?i can think of one of two things.you said you checked for the old oil ring,so that's ruled out.that leaves two things, either you over- tightened the new filter, when you installed it,or you have installed the incorrect filter, the vehicle calls for.it's easy sometimes to look at the wrong line.or maybe you put a different brand of filter on and got the wrong number.re-check and good luck. thank you!Oil filter is leaking after i changed my oil?put on a new one. put on oil film to seal an install by hand. rotate filter by hand until seal makes contact, then tighten with both hands. no wrenches or cheater bars, o.k.Oil filter is leaking after i changed my oil?You have to remove the filt, and inspectit.WELL Also. unlike NAm cars which have a large o ringbut if you put a flat one fr. mr lube you will leak. Stisk to factory equip. and problems solved. DONT forget to make sure thr treaded part the filt screws on is tightOil filter is leaking after i changed my oil?If you started %26amp; tightened it by hand then cross-threading is very unlikely. If it is, then the filter %26amp;/or the pipe nipple it goes on, can be replaced.Oil filter is leaking after i changed my oil?did you put oil on the new gasket, before you installed it?its possible you crossed the threads, but you would probably mess up the threads on the filter before the engine. take it back off and install a new filter and hand tighten it only. no, i never gotten a new filter with a hole in it, except where it screws on.

Is there a market for "to your cabin" generator oil changes for people off of the grid in mountains and such?

Many off-the-grid cabins have generators that are stationary and imobile. Most of the cabins would require a significant 4x4 drive and at least an hour of labor to change the oil and filter on their genset.

Is there a demand for this service? How much should I charge? Is there a market for %26quot;to your cabin%26quot; generator oil changes for people off of the grid in mountains and such?Well, maybe, but keep in mind that people who are %26quot;off the grid%26quot; are pretty independent and will probably just do it themselves...

How easy is it to change the break pads on a peugeot 306?

I have a 306 diesel and need to change the front break pads on my 306. i have done regular maintenance on it and change the oil, filters etc etc and drained the coolant from the radiator etc etc. i have to haynes manual for this car so is it pretty easy to do. also is it worth doing the discs as well? How easy is it to change the break pads on a peugeot 306?Front pads should take an average 'kerbside' mechanic about 45 minutes per side once the wheels are off.- longer if you have the usual 4 cuppa's! Ensure the car is adequately supported remove the bolts securing the pads in place, then using a couple of large flat bladed screwdrivers gradually force the pads %26amp; piston back into the calliper ( alternating ends). Discs may require you to remove the calliper assembly with a splined drive socket - size 50 torx ( it did when I changed them on my 406 as the discs will not go over the hubs) If you do the discs as well - about 75-90 minutes per sideHow easy is it to change the break pads on a peugeot 306?simple enough but you may need certain tools to remove calipers before discs,in order to remove pads find a g clamp to push slowly the pistons back fully put in pads with a small amount of copper grease only on the rear of pads then remove full caliper to remove disc but be careful of just letting it hang by its rubber pipe. How easy is it to change the break pads on a peugeot 306?Just to add to the first answer re the discs - if they are wearing thin, have a lip all round the outer rim, are badly corroded or scored it is best to replace them at the same time as the pads. Not always easy to get them off without a puller but some do come straight off. refer to Haynes. How easy is it to change the break pads on a peugeot 306?Wow! Three good answers already.

    Only a little to add.

Rotors have a minimum thickness, usually stamped on them.

Your rotors may be able to be skimmed if they have suitable thickness left.

They should have no lips, discolouration, grooves etc

Make sure your replacement pads look identical to the ones on your car before getting too far into the job (ie check as soon as you get a wheel off). There are often different pads and the shop may not have got it right....
